Abbott signs sweeping child welfare overhaul into law

Texas Child Protective ServicesTexas Child Protective Services receives vast criticism for its oversight of child in the agencies care. Critics say the current Texas Child Protective Services have lost children within their own system. News reports state that caseworkers have not been able to locate children placed in foster care or the care of a relative.

In addition, few families are ever reunited.  Furthermore, parents struggle to navigate the current system.  Critics demand better for Texas children.

Recently, lawmakers in Austin took on the task of overhauling this system.  The goals are to ensure that both families and children are protected.

In May 2017, Governor Abbott signed a new bill into law.  Read more in the USA Article.  Lawmaker provided more tax dollars to the agency to improve staffing and services.

Therefore, time will tell if this bill produces the positive changes it is intended too.  Critics say that it doesn’t do enough.  Yet, while those that voted for the bill feel it is a good step in the right direction.  In addition, continued evaluation of the bill’s success should be monitored.  Texans want their money used wisely and their children kept safe.

Improving the lives of Texas children

First of all, many of us may never have an interaction with Texas’ Child Protective Services.  However, it is important that all Texas understand the challenges within the Texas child welfare system.

Because issues affect the lives of thousands of Texas Families, children, employers, and society we must watch this issues.  No doubt that The Texas child welfare system must have adequate resources.  Texans should demand efficient use of those resources to better the lives of Texas children.

As Texans, our children come first. Therefore, lawmakers and administrator must balance the assistance of government and the sanctity of the family.  Our children of Texas are the future.
